Change zoning legislation to push for minimum amounts of owner occupied housing. This will push the housing market to be more affordable, as it will stop large companies from being able to arbitrarily raise rent and prices as Evanston moves into the future. With housing inflation so high, this will create a long term solution to help isolate Evanston residents from the whims of landlords. If developers are not willing to build condos, I will support measures to build co-ops by Evanston, as long as it is not cash negative for the city.

 Healthy Buildings Ordinance and the Climate Action and Resilience Plan are both strong commitments that Evanston needs to continue and strengthen them further. As Mayor, I’ll put forth committee appointments that will strongly push for the environmental well being of our city.

Many of us in Evanston are unable to afford housing. I will push for more 3 flat zoning areas to allow for increased density without destroying the green space that makes Evanston what it is, as well as more condos downtown to allow for downsizing for those who are ready to downsize and allow others to take up their larger residences to new families that want the space to raise their children in Evanston.

I will be very pro bike lane. Having a safe method of transportation to allow our children to freely traverse the city is extremely important. It’s also important to affordability, as it cuts out the need for one of the largest expenses for households, the car. This measure will increase the safety of our neighborhood, and allow the city to improve access to people of all ages.

I will push for increased investment in historically underinvested wards, especially through zoning laws that specifically allow for companies to more easily invest in the areas.

We can afford a robust, well staffed library, which is important for equitable access to resources and education. I’ll stand by local unions, and the city employees’ rights to a living wage and fair working conditions. 

Houses should be as affordable as possible to purchase, and allowing landlords to purchase them and push up rents decreases their affordablitiy. I will push to Severely limit or ban renting of single family housing.

I will support the addition of a new yellow line stop in Evanston to expand transit accessibility, and assure it is wheelchair accessible.

Our ground breaking programs like reparations are important parts of what makes Evanston what it is. I stand by ensuring that Evanston continues to be a diverse place to live, that pays for the wrongs the city committed in the past.

Affordable housing is an important part of Evanston.

Allowing the youths of Evanston to get around is an important part of a lively city. I will make sure that children can get on CTA, Pace, and Metra trains and buses without paying. This will improve outcomes for children, allowing them to enjoy outside green space stress free. It will also allow them to explore the city without having to worry about money, furthering an equitable existence — many low income families cannot explore the same way middle and high income children who have allowances to burn can. Evanston is built on families, and this will help ensure equal access.

Evanston has neglected its funds since the pandemic. At this rate, we will enter a deficit, and while it is important to also reduce expenses where possible, to keep our great city government we will need to make up for 5 years of putting off tax increases. Fiscal management is important, so I will push for the city to keep a surplus in regular years to make a healthy rainy day fund. This will take hard decisions to succeed at what needs to be done.
